My First Visit To Latrigg.

Keswick from Latrigg Summit

Heading to Keswick was a last minute decision and I’m so glad we made it. The weather was lovely and I was really Looking forward to visiting a bench that I get sent many times. The bench at Latrigg is only about 2 mile outside of Keswick so it’s a stroll for many people. We parked the car At Crosthwaite Road car park which was a good decision because it was only £3 for the day. We exited the car park onto Crosthwaite road turning right before turning right onto Brundholme Road. After about 300m you will come to spoonygreen Lane which is the start of the walk. From here you just follow the sign posts, it’s as easy as that.

If your like myself and are a little unfit and above 60 you might find the first couple of hundred yards hard going because of the steepness but the path starts to get easier and you will soon start to enjoy the walk. The views to your left are mind blowing with great views over Bassenthwaite Lake.

I was very surprised to see the Gliders and Hang Gliders on the way up

When your near the top the path zig zags to cut out any steepness which my dodgy knees appreciated greatly. I could actually see the bench from quite a way off and I could see that we wouldn’t be up there alone but I hoped that I would actually get a chance to just sit for 5 minutes and enjoy everything around. As there was so many people about we walked passed the bench and sat on the summit looking down and waited until the area cleared.

Nearly my turn
Where did they appear from 😂
Finally the bench belonged to me for 5 minutes

This walk would be a great family walk. We took our faithful flask and some lovely lemon biscuits and just sat and enjoyed everything around. We met a Wonderful couple from Lancaster who had read and saved my article I had published in Yorkshire Life a couple of years ago. I still can’t believe how much My Favourite Bench is enjoyed not only by myself but by thousands around the World.

Soon it was time to head back down because I wanted to call in at Friars Crag and Strandshag Bay To check out a couple of very special Bench views.

We finally arrived back in Thirsk at about 8pm and headed straight out for something to eat. The only failing of the day was the lack of places to eat on the night but maybe we should have booked ahead so really it was my own fault.

Please leave a comment at the bottom of the page and if your on Twitter please follow me at @MyFaveBench for more beautiful Bench pictures.

Thank You

Paul
