Thirsk makes itself ready for the Tour de Yorkshire with a little help from the local Yarnbombers

The Market square dressed with Blue and Yellow bunting

Saturday May 6th will be a special day in Thirsk and surrounding villages and yet the event itself will flash through the Dales that fast you won’t be quick enough to take a photograph. This is because the special event is the ‘Tour de Yorkshire’, a 4 day cycle race that will be zig zagging across many parts of Yorkshire. The race reaches Thirsk on Saturday and the locals are embracing the event like a visit of the Queen.

The local ladies knitting group who are called The Thirsk Yarnbombers have knitted hundreds of little Cycling Jerseys to hang from walls and trees. They have dressed the traffic bollards like little mini stages and they’ve also dressed visitor attractions like the World of James Herriot.

If anyone is in the area on Saturday, why not visit Thirsk or one of the other beautiful Yorkshire Market towns. You will be amazed at the hard work everyone has put in.

I wonder if this is Peter the Vet
