Thirsk hosts the ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ on the hottest day of the year

Thirsk was a Buzz today as the ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ sped through the town on it’s way to Scarborough. The tour organisers couldn’t have picked a better day with wall to wall sunshine and temperatures tipping the scales at a Ice Cream licking  22 deg.

The Market place was pack with families enjoying the sunshine and the buzz of the day.
Locals and visitors lined the streets waiting for the riders to flash through the town onto Scarborough via Sutton Bank, Helmsley, Pickering and many other eagerly anticipating villages.
Street performers keep the children amused with balloon figures and unicycle tricks.
The Town cryer bellows out the days events from the steps of the market square steps
One of the famous Thirsk Yarnbombers shows off her skills in the town square.
At 2:40pm the Tour de Yorkshire comes flying down Kirkgate, past the Cross Keys and World of James Herriot and on into the market square.
Don’t blink or you’ll miss them.
No overtaking on Kirkgate please gentlemen……. there’s a bobby shop at the end of the street.
And of course you always have to have the hangers on. A cavalcade of support vehicles follow the riders just incase!!
10 minutes later, we are back to normallity, but I am so glad I stood on Kirkgate for what will go down as one of the special days of my life.
